David MacLeod

David joined the Dulux marketing team from university, having gained a BSc in Business Studies. Under his leadership the Dulux team significantly strengthened the brand through innovation, including the award winning Dulux natural whites range. David became Head of Marketing at Dulux, and then moved to become MD of a European business which improved its performance from a loss to 20% plus RONA

David then became a Divisional CEO in ICI which was formed by bringing together five separate businesses to form a global organisation of 3,500 people with sales of €1billion. Profits were significantly enhanced through the merger process. He has managed businesses in each of the five largest countries in Europe and served on the boards of companies in Europe, North America (where he lived), Korea and Russia. David has worked as a senior advisor on change and performance at the Cabinet Office and also at Towers Perrin.

David is a visiting professor at the Cass business school and a fellow of the Ashridge business school. He is an associate of the Institute for Government, and a fellow of the Institute of Marketing.

In 2007 David co-authored ‘The Extra Mile: How to engage your people to win’. In 2008, David was invited with Nita Clarke to report on Engagement in the UK, resulting in the publication of Engaging For Success (also known as the MacLeod Report) in 2009 and the setting up of the Engage for Success Movement. David is co-chair of the government sponsored, employer led Employee Engagement Task Force launched by the Prime Minister at Number 10 in March 2011.
